Eureka
The city of Eureka (population 28,000) is located next to Humboldt Bay and is less than an hour away from the prestigious Redwood National Park. Eureka is known for its beautifully preserved “Old Town Eureka” comprised of both residential and commercial Victorian-style buildings, great shopping and restaurants. If you are interested in art, there are many galleries and museums from which to choose.

Other than being known for its stunning art and architecture, this bustling seaport town is also recognized for being the greatest Pacific coastal city between San Francisco and Oregon. A few of Eureka’s main attractions include the Fort Humboldt State Historic Park, the Morris Graves Museum of Art, and the Sequoia Park and Zoo. Eureka is also known for being the largest oyster farming area on the West Coast.

Cutten
Located roughly 2.5 miles from downtown Eureka, Cutten is a great place to relax and enjoy the sunny weather and beautiful redwoods. Cutten is a small yet highly desirable area to live and is located just walking distance from the Sequoia Park Zoo as well as Cutten Realty.

Arcata
With a population of about 17, 000 people, Arcata is a small college town conveniently located on the northern shore of Humboldt Bay just 3 miles from McKinleyville and 7 miles from Eureka. Arcata is a great place to live if you are interested in outdoor activities. It is also home to the Natural History Museum, the Arcata Community Forest, Humboldt State University and their semi-pro baseball team, the “Humboldt Crabs.”

McKinleyville
With a population of a little over 15,000, McKinleyville is the third largest community in the area. It is located just off Highway 101 roughly 10 miles north of Eureka and 5 miles North of Arcata. Conveniently located, McKinleyville is the home of the Eureka-Arcata Airport, as well as many outdoor attractions such as the Hammond Trail and Calm Beach.

Fortuna
Often referred to as "The Friendly City,” Fortuna is located off Highway 101 just 30 minutes north of the Humboldt State Park. This little gem is home to the Fortuna Depot Museum, Eel River Trail, and lots of great shopping and restaurants.

Trinidad
Located on the Pacific Ocean just 8 miles north of the Arcata-Eureka Airport, the “Gateway City” of Trinidad is famous for its beautiful beaches, exciting trails, and tranquil parks. There are numerous landmarks located in Trinidad such as the Trinidad Head Light, the Trinidad Memorial Lighthouse, and the Humboldt State University Marine Laboratory. It is also said to be one of California’s smallest incorporated cities.

Other Humboldt County Surrounding Communities
Some of the smaller communities in Humboldt County include Hydesville and Carlotta—both located just east of Fortuna. Ferndale is located in the western region of Humboldt County. This small town is known for its beautiful Victorian architecture as well as its close proximity to the Lost Coast, which is an undeveloped coastal area located in both Mendocino and Humboldt Counties. Southern Humboldt County is made up of many small towns such as Shelter Cove –a small fishing community commonly referred to as “The Gateway to the Giant Redwoods.”
