Jill Macdonald was born and raised in Eureka and is sixth-generation Humboldt County. She grew up in a family of real estate professionals. After attending local schools she graduated from the University of Oregon with a BA and an MS. Although well established and educated in all local real estate, Jill's special interest is historic homes. She helped found the Historic Preservation program at the College of the Redwoods, and is an associate Professor teaching classes in architectural history, research, and restoration.

Jill is very involved in the community and is Past-President of the Greater Eureka Chamber of Commerce, and the Downtown Business Improvement District "Eureka Main Street." She is currently a board member of Eureka Rotary. In 2002 the City of Eureka adopted the Eureka Visioning Committee Report, co-authored by Jill, which addressed issues in Eureka's downtown core-area.
